Just listened to the 2nd TFTV and i am completely blown away.
This felt for me like the pilot of Firefly. The hopes and expectations of stories from ver well thought out and richly textured characters in a universe we already know and love.
I think putting new characters within the Firefly universe is one of the greatest way to get us "old" lovers of the verse a chance to really play again. The problem with only writing about the characters Joss created are multiple. The most important one for me, being a HUGE fan of audio is that this gives an entire new cast (if desired) a chance to really put thier all into it. instead of using that energy to recreate the original a whole new crew of people is allowed to recreate the verse without getting involved the paradox of messing with canon.
Love to hear any thoughts on the matter. Keep up the great work, i will keep listening.

Thanks for the praise. I'll pass it along to the author.
I'm definitely a fan of these types of stories, where it's new characters in Joss's verse, if the author is able to do it well.
I think the author really did a good job balancing the standard elements of Firefly (rogue ship, misfits, Browncoats, people on the run), with some new elements (female captain, very young crew, a cook on crew).
I agree that this would make a good audio drama. I will mention that to the author. He had said he'd be willing to write more if it was recieved well. _________________ Tales From The 'Verse Podcast - Stories You Won't Hear on the Cortex.

I agree, Skot. I sometimes have a problem being a little... too critical... of stories written using characters I already know and love. I guess I bring too many preconceptions of how I think the characters should have reacted to a given situation... Bringing new characters avoids that problem.
This story, I think, is true enough to 'Verse to feel comfortable and familiar... yet introduces new characters and situations, keeping things fresh and exciting. I thought it was great.
I was suffering from an awful cold and had a terrible time reading it whilst unable to breathe... but that is a personal problem!

heard back from the author.
He likes the idea of doing a radio drama, but it's going to depend on how time and resources play out for him.
He also informed me that the Blue Moon series is archived over at fireflyfans.net
http://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitemlist.asp?s=FICTION_FICTION&a=b
Just scroll down to look for Blue Moon.
He's got about 5 stories featuring the crew of the Artemis posted up there.
I have not checked out yet, but plan to soon. _________________ Tales From The 'Verse Podcast - Stories You Won't Hear on the Cortex.

I liked the 1st episode, but I loved this one.
Doing more of the Blue Moon series as audio dramas would be cool, but the story is really good on its own. For my 2 cents I think audio drams would take a lot more work I’d rather have more audio stories. |

Thanks for your comment, barmellin.
For the record, Tales From The 'Verse will not be doing audio dramas; just the stories read by one person. You are right; audio dramas take much more work.

Just wanted to add my 2cents,
I agree with you guys, about how great the content of blue moon is. The characters come right to life and I didn't feel they robbed or stole from the orginal Firefly cast. I kinda of saw each crew person of the Artemis as character types seen in many other forms of fiction and I like them all comming together in one place and I love the humor too.
"I thought I'd invite you up here so you don't get flatten with the lower half of the ship"
or something like that. It was well placed and well timed, and well.. well read =p
Any one know if "tales" is gonna continue with it or do I need to go download the stories. |

we may continue with blue moon. The response has been overwhelmingl positive. But I want to keep most of the stories about our Big Damn Heroes, rather than Alternative Damn Heroes, as much as Rachel Wu and co are very cool. _________________ Tales From The 'Verse Podcast - Stories You Won't Hear on the Cortex.

That's odd, I could've sworn that there was an entire cast of voice actors. Must've just gotten wrapped up in the story and let the mind fill in the rest.
It was a really good choice to use in the podcast, and I would enjoy hearing more of the series. (I have plans to read the written version on Fireflyfans.net as well anyway.) |

I just listened to this story in the car on the way to work. It was enough like Firefly to grab your attention, but the characters were unique enough to make it feel fresh.
I hope that as the series goes on, the characters will move out of the shadows of the Big Damn Heroes and become their own people.
If you haven't listened yet, get the podcast. You can also read more stories online, but I'm hoping they'll be converted to audio story. |

I think there may have been a different tone of voice used for different characters (not 100% sure it’s been a whole week since I listened to it for the 3rd time). But it was all 1 poor guy who couldn't breath.

I know I'm late to this thread, but just wanted to say that I enjoyed Blue Moon quite a bit too. While I like the Big Damn Heroes, I think the 'verse is big enough to show the adventures of other heroes. _________________ Trampas Whiteman

I'm late to this thread also... I loved this new crew. I really hope TFTV do more. I have enjoyed all of the readers but by far my favorite is the Beast. He has good range and his accent compliments the 'verse perfectly. I am eagerly awaiting the next episode! I have an hour commute and this is making it bearable! I even made my husband listen to this episode and to the Going Home episode (5). He liked both and when we got to our destination on Sunday with 7 minutes to go for Going Home, we had to sit in the car (at target) to finish it. Our 2.5 year old was not happy! Please do more Blue Sun!
Thanks,

Glad to know y'all really liked Blue Moon. We may, in fact, do another ep of Blue Moon, but I can't say for sure. It looks like there's definitely some interest there, so it's something that we will pursue. Will keep you posted.

Well, at least I'm not the only one who's a little late to the thread...
I've just gotten into TFTV, (got started by the guest cast on The Signal), so I'm just now catching up on the stories. Like everyone else here has said, Blue Moon is in the same vein as the Serenity crew, but still new and fresh enough to be really interesting, (even though there are several similarities... ).
I know you guys want to tell stories about the BDH, but please consider recording the rest of these, too! Sure, I can go and read them, but it's a lot easier and better for me to listen to them while I'm at work.
Thanks for all of your work on this 'cast and keep flyin'! |

Wei! There's a whole passel of folks getting here late, including me!
Currently making my way thru "Carnival"...Ep 6
I'm trying to guide those forlorn writers that deposit fanfic in the forum to submit to the podcast. Lurking thru the posts looking for them right now, and I did enjoy the Artemis and her crew immensely, way to go, BEAST! |
