Hey all... I love firefly, and all things Joss... But I am finding a new love on CBS with the new Vamp on the block Mick St John - in MOONLIGHT. I am hoping they dont pull a FOX on this show... and want MORE!

I have been listening to the Signal & Scapecast forever now... After seeing this show I thought... hmm Moonlight needs its own podcast!

I am not a total tech diva but I can hold my own mostly... I am not shy of voicework.... so if anyone is thinking of puting a podcast together for this show I would be interested in helping out!

Stay Shiny all!!!! and Check out Moonlight if you havent seen it yet!

Uppity

I have been watching this show, and I admit it is getting better but the entire time I am watching it I am hearing "FOREVER KNIGHT rip-off" screaming in the back of my brain.

The real irony is that FK was also aired on CBS in the early to mid 1990s.

If you are liking Moonlight, I suggest picking up the three seasons of FK and giving them a shot (but be prepared: the third season is a drastic downturn in quality).

I know I was a total FK fan before BTVS... I like that but the difference is, its a more modern take and Laquoix is not pushing him around.. i also love the total embrace of technology... and the look and sound of this... also most importantly this is STILL airing.. for now anyway.. and FK was on for 3 seasons...

How else will we get a fix? I like Blood Ties, but comes with a larger side of cheese.. This show seems to harken back to the Beauty & Beast (also CBS, they seem to like the unusual..) love story but not the sickenly romantic cheese... lol

I noticed the difference in the Lacroix character and I think I like the new one better.
There is also an absence of Janette and Schenky.

I also like the take on daytime and no flying. There are some differences and, as I said, I am starting to like it more and more with each passing episode (it made it past the "I'll give it at least 3 episodes" test.... unlike some of the other shows (cough, flash gordon, cough) that were bad enough to be removed from the TiVo season pass list partway through the third episode because I knew that it could not recover before the end of the episode.

BTW got this off united press:

CBS orders more 'Moonlight'

Published: Oct. 24, 2007 at 7:08 AM

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- CBS has reportedly ordered four more scripts for its new Los Angeles-set vampire drama, "Moonlight" despite its less-than-stellar ratings.

The show, which is about a good-guy vampire who works as a private investigator, is the network's lowest rated Friday program.

The move to plan future episodes of the series could be a sign CBS is giving the show a chance after it had a difficult journey getting made in the first place, Zap2it.com said, adding the network's decision might also have something to do with a possible upcoming writers' strike.

CBS picked up "Moonlight" based on a brief presentation, not a full pilot, then changed everything but the premise and leading man Alex O'Loughlin.

Supporting players like Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring were added and "Angel" veteran David Greenwalt was hired as showrunner, then replaced by Chip Johannessen.

In related news, CBS has ordered a full season of the sit-com "The Big Bang Theory," asked for additional "Cane" scripts and quickly canceled Hugh Jackman's "Viva Laughlin," Zap2it.com reported.

I was recently tipped off the Big Bang Theory was worth watching and I was able to go the cbs.com site and watch the first four episodes online.

There were some laugh so hard you miss the next line moments. Glad to hear it got picked up for a full season.

This is making me realize how Fox-like I seem to have become.

Because I gave "Moonlight" five minutes, and decided I would pass.

And then I watched bits of the first episode of "Bionic Woman" (and I'm a Battlestar Galactica fan) and found it so full of dreary, serious dialog and nothing else, that I instantly decided that I didn't need to watch that either.

Guess I'm just getting old. If a show doesn't grab me right away, I just have better things to do with my time.

And I remember back to how long it took me to really appreciate "Battlestar Galactica" and how I wasn't really hooked on "Friday Night Lights" until maybe three episodes.

Good luck with resurrecting your vampire.

Hey
I dont think your really fox like... because they get behind a show, build everyone up... then yank the rug out from under us.

I do feel bad that you have a hard time getting into stuff, but keep in mind how most people who saw 'Train job' were un impressed and didnt give Firefly another look till way later... and are now totally hooked.

I think a 3 ep minimum or at least 1 full ep is probly the best way to eval any show... was if the star was slow on the eps you checked out? or the next one would have you hooked?

:::::::getting off soapbox now...lol::::::::

BTW - tonites moonlight rocked... soooo funny... with surprises...lol

I am always willing to give a show 6 episodes. And my criteria to determine if I've lost the magic for a show? Whether I care if I missed an episode.

Since I tape everything I watch these days (gotta fast forward through those commercial breaks) if I forget or if I tape over an episode accidentally then how I feel about that is my marker.

But Joss says that the first six episodes of any show are still "pilot" and I think he's right. If you can't establish your premise in 6 episodes then your show is too complicated or your storytelling is too slow.

Also, within 6 episodes your actors have found their characters and the writers have had all the big fights with the network over the direction of the show. If you still care about a show on episodes 7 to infinity is directly related to how well the show has survived the first six.

What I am watching now:
Mondays:
* Big Bang Theory (just added! Got me in 1 episode)
* Heroes (got me in 2 episodes)
* Journeyman (Got me in 1 took the wife 2)
Tuesdays:
* Eureka (took 5 episodes to warm up to last year)
* Reaper (Took 2 shows for me and the wife is still "out" after 5 episodes)
Wednesday
* Pushing Daisies (got it in 1)
* Bionic Woman (I am only just now warming to this show after 4 episodes)
Friday
* Flash Gordon (This one may disappear from my list but it still manages to make me go "Okay, one more" at some point in each episode)
* Battlestar Galactica (This show took the whole miniseries to get to like...but the regular series blows me away)
* Doctor Who (Got it in 3 of the new series back with Christopher Eccleston and hooked ever since)

So it may take you a while to get to like a series, but give it a decent chance. Based on recommendations from the here and some podcasts I am willing to look at Friday Night Lights despite my loathing of all things High School Sports because it has been recommended. So the first six episodes of that may find their way into my DVD player...

That reminds me of a terrible mistake that some series make, and that is to cram as much into the pilot as possible.

I remember watching the pilot of ..."Point Pleasant"? Was that it's name? The one with the supposed daughter of Satan washing up in a coastal town. It didn't last long. But they rushed through so much plot in the first episode that there was no room for any character development or mystery or anything interesting. Hardly surprising that it was cancelled soon after.

The short-lived "Tarzan" remake is another example. Man, that was a dumb pilot.

Well I finally checked out the most recent episode of "Moonlight" and it was pretty darn good. Of course, it's on at the same time as (the...ahem...far superior) "Friday Night Lights" so I'll be taping it and watching it later.

I wonder how the writers' strike will affect all these series. Is it only California-shot ones? "FNL" is made in Texas. What about shows that are shot in Canada? I imagine they're still written in large part in California.

Actually the writers strike affects all writers in the usa who belong to the union, and anyone who crosses the line will not be able to join the union for 10 years.... And as far as your fave show goes..... well read this excerpt from msnbc http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21251689/

Goodbye “Grey’s Anatomy,” hello “The View: Primetime”; say so long to “Friday Night Lights” and welcome “The Biggest Loser: The Three Hour Edition.”

Your TV schedule may change drastically in early 2008 if the Writers Guild of America goes out on strike Nov. 1, as it has threatened to do over the past few months. Those threats no longer feel like empty rhetoric anymore. Now, a walkout by TV and film writers seems like a very real, and frightening, possibility for the viewing public.

Before we go screaming into the night with clickers in hand, a quick recap of the facts that have led to the Hollywood showdown between the WGA and the Motion Picture and Television Producers.
