|
|
Hi,
I'm from the UK and want to get Firefly series and Serenity movie on blu-ray but unsure of what version to get and what might be coming out. So some questions to help me decide:
1) What blu-ray versions of Firefly are there? I've seen US version, is this all?
2) What blu-ray versions of Serenity are there? Amazon.co.uk shows a US Import version and a PAL version, are there more?
3) Are there differences between the US Import and PAL versions of Serenity?
4) Are there rumours of any upcoming versions of either Firefly or Serenity?
Will the US versions of either play fine in a UK PlayStation 3?
Thanks

I don't really know the answer to most your questions, but I did pull something up about the PS3 and regions--
| wiki.answers.com wrote: | | There is currently no known method for unlocking region PS3 consoles to play Blu-Ray movies from regions other than ones that match the player's region. About 500 region free movie titles currently exist from different studios. Not all studios release region free Blu-Rays. Some exclusively do (to date), some have released some locked, some unlocked, and other studios have released only locked titles. You can see a list of locked, region-free, and studios here: http://www.regionfreemovies.com |

Checking the site http://regionfreemovies.com/ seems to say that the Serenity versions are region free. Before you buy, though, double check your version just in case! |

Thanks, homeofpoe, I've checked out your links and wikipedia and can see that Region 2/B is what my PS3 plays.
I worked it out and then spotted this on whedonesque which confirms:
http://whedonesque.com/comments/18173
- Firefly series blu-ray is Region 1/A and 2/B
- Serenity is region free
There are two Serenity versions that I can see, the US one has a much nicer cover than the PAL (UK) version.
That sorts that out, but some of my original questions still stand if anyone can help with those:
1) What blu-ray versions of Firefly are there? I've seen US version, is this all?
3) Are there content differences between the US Import and PAL versions of Serenity?
4) Are there rumours of any upcoming versions of either Firefly or Serenity?
Thanks

I guess we in the USA will only be aware of the US Blu-ray release of Firefly. I'm ashamed to say I have it, but haven't had time to watch it yet!
Any PAL version of anything is by definition NOT Blu-ray, since PAL is a standard def format. There cannot be a PAL Blu-ray version, at least, that's my understanding.
I don't have any further answers to your question, sorry. I don't know if Playstations get around the region coding that I believe still goes on with hi-def discs. |

Thanks. Yes that's right, Pal and NTSC doesn't matter in bluray, it's region that counts, so I'll go for that one.
Still want to know if UK and US Serenity have different content or just the cover is different.

I can't help you with the UK versions or Blu-Ray, but I do know that the Australian DVD version of Serenity came out with additional content that wasn't available on the initial US release of the DVD.
The subsequent Collector's Edition DVD of Serenity that was made available in the US added almost all of the Australian content (with the exception of the Sydney panel with Joss Whedon, which ended with the entire audience singing the Firefly theme song to him).
Whether they've also done this sort of thing with the Blu-Ray versions and/or the UK versions, I don't know. But I figured it was worth putting out there that additonal content has been available on the Australian DVD at least, which means that the possibility exists that content may differ with the UK versions as well. _________________ Fox cancelled it? It must be a good show. |
