10 is going to be such an amazing, poignant and hilarious episode that they are probably testing how long they can keep us in suspense.
I hope nothing's gone seriously wrong. We need our fix. |

10 has been recorded, but there have been some holdups getting it out. So it's going to be late. I don't know how late exactly, but I'm assuming you'll get #10 before you get #11. _________________

Those are exactly my sentiments - I must have checked the page 20 times yesterday anxiously waiting for #10's release.
Concern over "The Signal" is what prompted me to get off my rump and join here. Thanks Jill (Companion Kate) for letting us know the situation. I know you all work very hard on it and from the far reaches of the country no less. Alas, patience is a virtue we as Firefly fans must possess.
Keep up the good work and thanks again for the update! |

Why? We have an RSS feed and an email notification list. There's no need to keep checking by hand. That's what computers are for! _________________

I think you inadvertantly said "country" there, when you meant "planet".

Unfortunately, this is my first podcast experience and I'm still fuzzy on the whole RSS feed thing. And I unabashedly check all my Joss/Firefly-Serenity/general nerdy links with alot more accuracy then I do my e-mail.
What can I say? Site pretty... I have no method to my madness - I just know that it's ever present.

Oh right. Well, we do have this cool email list you can join, whereby we send you an email address whenever there's something new to download from the web page. There's information about that on the web page.
That said, I personally would definitely recommend getting a podcatcher instead of joining the email list. Not only does it save you the bother of doing the download by hand, but it also gives you access to all the other podcasts in the world. As far as podcatchers go, lots of people recommend iTunes 4.9. I prefer iPodder. Check out the "What is a Podcast" section on our website. _________________

Good episode. A good, good episode. Nice to know that the Firefly brass dabble in the Firefly/Serenity fan material.
And tell Kari that she's not the only one who hasn't seen Serenity yet (I am not-so-patiently awaiting the September 29 release). _________________

Don't feel too bad, Kari! I haven't been able to see the BDM yet, either. And I think you have every reason to give Les a little smack on his hand for continuing to bring that he has seen it so much. Or maybe a big smack.
Anyway, 14 days and counting!

I loved the podcast this week, as always. I think my favorite section this week has to be "I Like Chinese". It was hilarious, and I really did like finally knowing what was on Jayne's shirts.
I am very anixious about the news on the Dragon-Con, and I'm guessing that will be a special episode out sometime in the next week or so. It sounds like the Serenity/Firefly love was running wild there in Atlanta. Gives me the warm and fuzzies just thinking about it.
I also still haven't seen the BDM - living in the sticks as I do. But I have already purchased my husband and myself tickets for 2 back to back showings on 9/30. I'm not gonna waste that night of having a baby-sitter in the least. Plus the opening weekend is the most important.
I also want to congradulate The Signal for making it to #1 on Podcast Pickle and Podcast Alley. And for September - the big month! Since almost all of my friends are already Firefly fans and plan on seeing the movie I have enjoyed sharing The Signal with them, and it is becoming increasingly popular amoungst our group. Keep up the good works!

I think I was justified about all the taunting that Kari gave me over the comics. She held the fact that she had hers when I didn't have mine yet over my head, and she still hasn't read the second one. I think I already get enough abuse I'm just glad that Kari is 3 timezones away or it would just get worse....

I taunted you ONCE, you schmuck. You bring it up everytime we talk...even when we're NOT on the air. AND...I didn't hold it over your head...I just surprised you with the news when we had to re-record that bit 2 days after we'd first talked and neither of us had gotten our comic yet.
And it's reassuring to know that there are lots of other people who haven't seen it yet. I bought tickets for the earliest showing my area - 11:59 pm on September 29th. _________________ Listen to "The Signal"

Bushwhacked: Book probably haven't read Romans 13:1-3; and I'm fair sure Kaylee's not talking about Serenity in her interrogation.
Will there be spoiler free versions of signals after the movie's general release in the core? _________________ --

The plan is to keep The Signal spoiler free for at least the first few shows into October. With listeners in over 50 countries we realize that the release dates outside of the USA do vary a great deal.
We will give PLENTY of warning before we reveal any spoilers on the show.
Thanks,

She was talking about another ship. I just wanted to point out that all Kaylee is going to talk about is ship specs.. She isn't going to let any other information out about Serenity. _________________ Miranda

Y'all are just plain weird. Poor guys. The series was just wonky. Revolvers and FTL drives? There are a few limits on how far credibility stretches. Yes, I got the point that the 'Verse has a very traumatic past. Technologies essentially were thrown into a cosmic meat-grinder. Ok, I can hang with that, but I felt the writers were holding far too much back for me to care about the characters. |

Interesting. I recall the same argument being made about the John Carter on Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. If the Martians had rifles that could shoot 200 miles, why did so many use swords?
But let me ask you some questions in rebuttal. Do we have the technology to rip apart atoms, releasing incredibly destructive amounts of radioactive energy that can level whole cities. Can we launch smart bombs with laser precision? Do we have guns that can shoot dozens of rounds a second?
If so, why are there people in the world who still use bows, arrows, spears, and blowguns? What wonky writers came up with THAT non-credible scenario? Who could care about any of THOSE people.
Damn, next thing you know, those writers will be coming up with something totally outrageous, like whole parishes of people living below sea-level right in the middle of a hurricane zone.

Love the podcast! Is there any way you could post times in the show notes, so it's easier to find a particular segment? Thanks!

That is something that would be nice to have but it isn't something we plan to do because of the amount of work needed to do it well each week.
Thanks,

Having said that, if someone out there would like to volunteer to take the time and effort to index each and every show, and new ones as they come out, and then put that information on a website, we would be more than happy to link to it.

I think you maybe missed my point.
But first, I should remind you of when ERB lived and wrote. Naturally, he tended to stick with what was comfortable for his generation. ERB would probably be amazed by a M-4 or a P-90.
One of the things that bothers me is the sophisticated support required to keep that tech going. That sort of sophistication itself doesn't exist in a vacuum. We can just barely imagine the computing power needed to manage a FTL drive, and computers don't usually fix themselves. What I'm saying is that tech has a huge ripple effect on an economic area. Even Tatooime had a FEW cities advanced enough to support a space-port.
