Picking it up via iTunes now.
Cool. Didn't expect a new podcast this early in the week. Thanks! _________________

This is a small comment involving Saffron.
I'm Actually surprised hardly anyone uses the name "Yo-Saf-Bridge" to refer to her. Since we still, and probably will never know her real name. For some reason I think its a more suitable name

I just popped over to the Signal website to check the tally, and noticed that the "$__,___,___ till we get a sequel" has been removed from the tally. Just out of curiosity, why? _________________

Ooooh, I saw that, but I totally didn't notice it! Yeah, why? Do you all know something we don't? _________________ http://norcalriviera.blogspot.com - blog

Because it isn't necessarily true. The figure was just a rumor, which we have been unable to substantiate. Universal flatly deny it. Of course, $80,000,000 is still a target we should aim for, and I'm sure we'll throw a few parties when we cross it, but crossing it won't guarantee a sequel, and not reaching it will not prohibit one. We'll probably talk about that some more in show #15. It's good news though. Serenity is doing just fine in Universal's eyes. _________________

Okay, sweet.
Just finished listneing to the podcast (had school and all) and loved it as usual, especially the history of the 'Verse section. Can't wait for the next one.
Oh, and just out of curiosity; what's the ETA on the Spoiler Special that was mentioned during the episode (details are slipping from my mind, so bare with me if I've got something wrong)? _________________

We actually had a sort of 3-in-1 deal. That is 3 Civil Wars back to back. Well, trilogies draw better audiences don't they?
Civil War I 1640-6
Civil War II 1647-9
Civil War III 1649-51
[edit] If you're actually interested there's more here. [/edit]
Oh yes, a question that's been on my mind for the longest time. Where is the 'End Credit' music for the podcast from? You know, the one with all the people singing along. I'm guessing it's from a Con or something. |

Not quite. We built it.
We did snag a recording of some audience singing from the Starfury Serenity convention, that's true. We got that from the AV room of the official forum (it was actually a video). But that's not what we used in the end credits. Not precisely.
We made a special version of the Ballad of Serenity in which Sonny Rhodes voice was mixed back a bit, and then we superimposed the audience singing mentioned above on top of that composite. So it's a composite of convention clip together with another composite!
We do that stuff. We're the Signal. _________________

That would be shiny and I certainly would buy it. You'all have been doing a great job and I'd enjoy being about to reference some of the material without having to find it in an audio search. |

I got a bit confused about what you were referring to there. If you meant the book idea, that's great. But we kinda want people to tell us that by email, so that we can get an idea of numbers. It's no good telling us that on a forum because people tend not to say stuff that other people have already said (duplication is boring), and so we never get any good idea of numbers. (Although I guess we could start a poll... Hmmm...) _________________

Thanks for the educational link! I will have to read a bit about them. I am sure we learned the basics back in primary, but to be honest I was a "memorize, take the test, and forget it" girl!

No problem
Basically: Like the French we had a bit of an anti-monarchy thing going on. Argued about it with swords for a while. But unlike the French we worked out a compromise, of sorts. |

| Just wanted to let y'all know: when I DL-ed the episode on iTunes tonight (10/13), "The Signal" was on the main Podcast page in the "On Television" section. Yay! |

Sounds brilliant But since I don't use iTunes, I don't know what that means. My podcatching client works silently in the background. It does one job, and it does it well. It doesn't double up as a web-browser or anything mad like that - all it does is download the stuff I've asked it to download, quietly and without any fuss.
I get the impression that iTunes is different. Normally, I'd call that "bloatware", adding flashy graphics and whatnot that aren't relevant to the job in hand (which is to download podcasts).
So, for those of us who don't use iTunes as their podcatcher, please could you explain in more detail what 'on the main Podcast page in the "On Television" section' means? (And how come you're downloading by hand anyway, if you have a podcatcher?)
Sorry to sound dumb. Please assuage my curiosity. Thanks. _________________

| Podcasts are accessed through the music store on ITunes, and the subpage features popular or new ones. The Signal is indeed featured. |

What program do you use? That sounds like one I'd like to use.

Ha! I truly feel that Yahoo mail has become this...it's why I like Gmail so much!

I use ipodder http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php. One nice thing about iTunes is it has very tight integration with an iPod. If you're not using an iPod, then that isn't an issue.

Same as Les, iPodder.
In actual fact, I use both iPodder and iTunes. I use iPodder for doing the podcatching, and iTunes for copying files onto my iPod.
The important thing, though, is that I use iPodder - not iTunes - to do the downloading part. It starts up when I boot my machine, and turns into a little lemon icon in the system tray. (Did I mention, I use Windows?). Every few hours, it checks to see whether or not there's anything to download, and downloads it without bothering me. If I want to see what's going on, I can right-click on the lemon and select "Open iPodder", and then I get a window which tells me everything I could possibly want to know - what's been downloaded; what hasn't; how far a particular download has gotten; etc.. (And if you can't be bothered to wait for a check, you can trigger one by hand with a button-click). Adding a new podcast to your list is as simple as copy-pasting a URL.
Simply put, it's a podcatcher, not a jukebox.
Miraculously, everything downloaded appears in iTunes "Recently Added" folder, so uploading to an iPod is a piece of cake. _________________

Like many other folks I also use iPodder to automatically check for and download new shows from the 15 or so podcasts that I listen to regularly. I then use Windows Media Player to sync the files to my Creative MuVo MP3 player.
No iTunes or iPod for me.
