I just started listening to The Signal a few days ago and am already up to episode 11. I've really enjoyed them. Wish I had listened to them back when they were originally released.

I do have a question about the closing segment of podcasts 1-9...At the end, there is a clip of an audience singing along to the Firefly theme song. I know that it was mentioned that this was from an earlier convention, but my question is - Where can I get my hands on the entire song with people singing along? Is this available anywhere? I absolutely -love- hearing that. I'm sort of an isolated browncoat here. The only people that I know who are familiar with Firefly or Serenity are the people that I introduced to the show. So hearing a bunch of browncoats all singing the theme song together seriously brought tears to my eyes the firt time I heard it (and just about each time since). Absolutely beautiful!

Also, I'm not sure if this segment was removed from latter podcasts, but I sorely missed it on episode #10.

Please let me know if this is available. I'd greatly appreciate it!

The audience recording comes from a video of the Starfury Serenity convention in London. That video was once in the AV room of the official forum. It isn't there any more.

Also, that video did not contain the whole song, just bits of it.

Finally, I was there, I was personally present at that convention, and I can tell you that even if the entire song had been recorded, it would not have been usable. In a Q&A, someone from the audience asked Nathan to sing the theme tune. Without backing, he started up, out of time, and totally out of tune. The audience took over, even more out of time and out of tune. It was horrible. And then one of the convention organizers had the presence of mind to play the Sonny Rhodes version. There was a moment of confusion when the audience tried to adjust, to slow down to about 60% of their original speed and drop four or five semitones. Eventually, by the end of the song, they were on track. And that's what we used.

Episode 10 was aired soon after Derek from Skepticality became ill. We talked about that at the end of the show, and didn't want to follow such sad news with a singalong. It seemed inappropriate, that's all.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! And for the information. That's a shame that there isn't a complete singalong version of the theme song. But great story! Bet it was great to be there (despite the off-key, out-of-sync rendition ).

And I completely understand your feelings concerning the end of the 10th podcast. I was unfamiliar with Derek from Skepticality, but was deeply moved by your mention of his illness. I am still not caught up with the podcasts and, as such, am still ignorant of the current situation. It sounded quite serious . My thoughts go out to both him and his family.

Derek of Skepticality is recovering. Episode 25 of Skepticality just came out and it has about a 15-20 minute segment with Derek & Swoopy in it. He's not back completely, but he is on the way.
