I just checked over at serenityday.org (the people who are organising this campaign), and it doesn't say. But my guess would be that Amazon counts as a store, just like any other, and so buying from there should be fine.

If you're in any doubt, contact kaele@serenityday.org

In terms of ordering(they dont say on the main site, but this is from discussions onfireflyfans.net)

There are 3 basic places to order from:

1) Universal directly, if you go to their site you can order it from them. It is assumed(not sure) that they benefit most from this.

2) Buying from local Independent stores. It was mentioned, one can talk to a local independent store, about publicizing this day the movie etc, and in return encourage people to buy the dvds from said store. Universal gets the money eventually(by having the store order more copies to repalce the copies bought), and you are encouragine independent businesses(the browncoat way)

3) Buy from Amazon, but through a link on a forum site like fireflyfans.net(dont know if serenitymovie.net has a link to amazon serenity dvd), since you would be supporting the fan site as well by purchasing it through them. This has the added effect of bumping the ranking on Amazon, however, to non-fans, they may view this as an anomally and ignore it. But it helps acts an indicator if this event will be successful.

If you are referring to the fact that David Tennent takes over from Christopher Eccleston, that's public knowledge, and has been since April 2005. And even if it weren't, the notion that the current Doctor will one day be replaced by someone else is hardly a spoiler - indeed, it's one of the main features of the show.

It's true that I played a clip or two that hasn't yet been aired on the US sci-fi channel. But I submit in my defense that Doctor Who season 27 has been available on DVD for region 1 since February 14th (from amazon.ca).

Hope I haven't spoiled your enjoyment of the show though. Sad IMO, season 28 is even better than season 27, so it's well worth ploughing on past the regeneration. Very Happy

I thought more could have been made of the Doctor Who comparison. Yes, the fan base was and is important in keeping both shows alive, but there are internal likenesses too.

For instance, their morality: back in the sixties, the crew of Star Trek followed what they called the 'prime directive', namely that you don't interfere with the cultures you encounter. No matter how atrociously you think they are behaving, imposing your values on them would be imperialism (shock, horror, contemporary relevance), and episode plots often centred on how the captain and crew tried to guide the locals towards a moral society without forcing them to change against their will.

But none of this cultural relativism for Doctor Who! When he came upon one race or dictator enslaving or abusing the innocent he told them in no uncertain terms: "You will stop doing that, and if you don't, I will make you stop!" (I'm thinking of the early Doctors, especially, here.)

So how about Firefly? The character of Malcolm Reynolds also contains at core an absolute moral code. When working for people who overstep the mark (e.g. Nishka, are you reading this?) Mal puts his foot down and refuses to go along. He tries to do what he thinks is the right thing. To this extent, the belief that there is an absolute standard of right and wrong is central to both Firefly and Doctor Who.

By the way, just to be obsessive-compulsive, in the SF review the comment is made that in The Leisure Hive there are no humans. Yes there are! Aside from human tourists (such as Loman), Hardin (and his partner Stimson) is one of the main characters, a human scientist.

Now if you want an episode with only aliens, Full Circle would do. Which, aside from everyone either being a Gallifreyian or Alzarian, isn't even in the "normal" universe!
