didn't see it pop up on my iTunes subsc ription yet. What's the typical lag time from when you post it to it being available on iTunes?

It's one of those unreliable internet things. For example, sometimes, I post the updated RSS feed, and confirm that the upload was successful, and that what my web browser sees is the new feed, but then when I go to validate it, the validator still sees the old feed file. The explanation is, of course, propogation delays around the internet, caches, and stuff like that. You can usually "flush all the caches" between your own browser and the source just by hitting your browser's refresh button, but that won't help if you're not using a web browser or if (in the case of validation) the HTTP request is originiating from the other side of the planet.
So - short answer, anywhere between zero seconds and several hours. _________________

Only 45 minutes in, but two things to mention:
1) What was the weird 'doh ray me' bit before the Deep Space Nine theme? That totally threw me!
2) As great as Joss is, and as much as I enjoyed the article, it was kind of unfair to give him credit for both the writing and direction of Out of Gas when he did neither. I'm sure Joss had lots of input on OoG (as I'm sure he did with all the episodes) but I don't think he can be credited above Tim Minear and David Solomon for the episode's success. |

In a ground breaking move, we actually played a clip from Deep Space Nine in the Deep Space Nine review! Specifically, it was a clip from the season seven episode Chrysalis, which is one of my favorite DS9 episodes.

Ooh, that's a good point. I guess there is a great tendency to credit Joss for everything Firefly. We're going to have to watch that in the future. _________________

Thanks for telling us how long to fast forward if we have not see all the episodes of DS9. That was very useful (so much TV to catch up to, so little time). _________________ Dustin Cooper, Amateur Graphic Designer:

Oh I was wondering which episode that was. Didn't ring any bells at all with me. (Not that I've seen all of them, but would have thought a moment like that would have stuck...)

Yes, I was considering sending in an email about that... _________________ Cheers,

Exactly the same for me.
And it seems clear from the commentary of the episode that the "three timeline structure" was successful thanks to David Solomon and the editing made on the episode. I think Minear and Solomon were probably "old" enough in Joss' team (all the more as Tim was co-exec producer on Firefly), so that Joss needed to add very little thing to their work. So, for once , the praises could directly go to the writer and director. |

BTW, if you think the opening music to DS9 is good, try listening to Fanfare for the Common Man. Might find it very familiar... _________________ Cheers,

By the way, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the DS9 review. I was sitting at work grinning like an idiot (and was close to tears) when the theme song was playing. Like Firefly, DS9 was a show that I became extremely emotionally attached to. When I was living abroad in France, I got through the first semester pretty much solely because I had one or two DVD episodes of DS9 to look forward to every night. It helped me get through what was a lonely and frightening first few months of culture shock, allowed me to bond with my new friends, and made me fall very deeply in love with the characters and the story. The characters themselves literally became friends; much as the crew of Serenity did a year later. Thanks for bringing together my two favorite sci fi shows and making me smile!

The Signal #14 was terrific. I really enjoyed the "Deep Space Nine" article. I lost interest in DS9 after a couple of seasons, but now I'm going to go back and pick up where I left off. Thank you for a great analysis. The article on the structure of "Out of Gas", my favorite Firefly episode, was very good, too. An earlier reply noted that it was omitted that Tim Minear wrote the script -- no small detail, especially for the writers among us. But that was a minor distraction from a good review and analysis of the most complex episode. Thanks!
Tim is teaching a 3-hour course (two 90-minute sessions) on blocking a TV show at the Screenwriting Expo5 in LA in October. He plans to use an episode from Firefly, Angel, or Wonderfall as an example for the class to work on, so I'm hoping he'll use "Out of Gas". _________________ Raphael |
