| I just got into your guys work, I'm working through Season one.. I was one of those poor slackers who missed the orginal run on tv (becuase I didn't watch television at the time) and now I wanna kick myself becuase I am in love with these characters and I am wanting to see their futures so bad. You guys are helpin' me keep the hope alive and from your site I have discovered many other outlets to help support the Browncoat movement and that is exciting. Keep up the good work you've given me so much, and for that I believe the firefly community just as much =) |

A small critique about the episode:
The sound seemed to go in and out. A few crackling and such every now and then. Especially when the Bedlam Bards were singing.
I was minor thing I just thought I would point it out. I fully understand that it could be the fact that they were live and it didn't subtract from the enjoyment of the episode.
Great episode though.
Just a minor, friendly critique.

I appreciate the feedback and personally I wish the recording had come out better. We recorded off of the board of the PA system that was set up for the podcasting room. We probably could have avoided these problems with the recording if we had someone actually monitoring the board output. Then we could have likely detected and corrected these issues while we were recording. For any future live events that we do that's certainly something that I would try to make sure happens.

I liked it. Sort of a logical contradiction "Signal Unplugged." |

I didn't dislike it, there are just parts of the event that I wish we had captured better. The dropouts are annoying. I wish the Bedlam Bards had come out clearer. In particular, I wish we had had an omnidirectional mic recording the audience on a separate track so it could show up better in the final cast. The live audience was fantastic & so excited, and I wish that more of that live energy had come through in the recording.

Great podcast guys and ladies. Loved it. Only problem was there were some not so shiny sound problems. Voices and/ music fading in and out, cutting out, or getting drowned out by the people in the room. Different mics? Soundcheck?
Anyway, keep up the great work and keep on flyin'

Having read the previous comments...
When recording off the PA, look at the signal (no pun intended) chain for the Gate/Limiter.
What the Gate does is, any sound under a specified leved it mutes, considering it as static and background noise. Turn it all the way to "off"
What the Limiter does is, any sound over a specified leved it mutes, preventing signal overload and distortion. Most times leave it as is.
This will result in a better/more consistant sound recording.
Not a complaint... Just a try to help with future shows... |

Thanks for the recommendations DIX-flatline. None of us (that were there at least) have any experience with live audio recording. Your advice is good and we'll definitely keep it in our bag of tricks for our next live event

I should mention that this was a bonus show, not a regular episode. We don't guarantee the same audio standard on bonus shows that we do on regular shows. You have to appreciate 16.5 for what it is - it's an extra episode, and it was recorded live outside of our direct control. _________________
