|
|
Hi,
just listening to the latest Signal (Shiny!) and the Gaming in the 'Verse: The Unification War section.
Mention was made of possible figures to use for people interested in miniatures games - however, although some figures (B5) by Mongoose Publishing were mentioned, the perfect miniatures for Alliance Troopers are made by them!
These are the Mongoose Starship Troopers miniatures and inparticular the Mobile Infantry Light Armour Troopers figures, because these are modeled on the same armour as used for Alliance Troopers in Firefly (the Starship Troopers props being borrowed for Firefly).
Here's the pictures from the Mongoose Publishing web site of the figures:
Note that the figures are cast metal and come unpainted - so it's really easy to turn them into 'purple bellies'
Keep up the good work! _________________ Keep Flying!

Hey, those are pretty slick! Wish I knew about them prior to writing the segment.
Well, gang, this episode is the finale of Gaming in the 'Verse. This segment has sort of become my baby, and I've enjoyed bringing it to you guys. I hope you've enjoyed it as well.
Never fear, though, for the folks at the Signal are an industrious lot, and I'm sure they'll have a whole new gaming segment in the future. It will undoubtedly have its own flair and style, and hopefully be a good tool for gamers.
I also wanted to say that I've enjoyed my time with the Signal. I'm sad to see it come to an end, but life has sort of thrown me for a loop of late. In amongst everything, I landed up being co-host for the upcoming SciFi Smackdown and Dragonlance Canticle podcasts, coming to you soon via Farpoint Media! It's a great opportunity, and I just can't pass it up.
I want to wish all of you the best. I'm sure that with all the fan efforts out there to keep Serenity alive, we'll see that Big Damn Trilogy in no time. Keep the faith. _________________ Trampas Whiteman

Even better - you get 3 whole shows instead of 2. That's a 50% increase compared with February. _________________

In the "What if we don't?" section, two classic examples of "No Aliens" are, of course, Red Dwarf and Blake's 7.
And didn't Jane Espenson say that she did come up with rules for Tall Card? Couldn't someone contact her for the "official" version? _________________ Cheers,

I was "challenged" by Trampas and Miranda to do some podcasting myself when I pointed out some things I didn't like about their (very good, but ultimately flawed) 1.5 and 1.6 analysis of the Firefly Pilot "Serenity". So I am going to seriously consider that challenge.
My Credentials: I am a very long-time table top gamer (I started in 1976 with D&D) and I play hundreds of game systems (even if only a dozen or so concurrently) including table-top, RPG and board games. I am not a PC/Console gamer, but I know folks who are and I follow the news if not buy the products (Penny Arcade anyone?). I run a Sernity Campaign called "Mudder's Luck" and I have written rules for gaming in other systems as well as complete games for our group. I have been published in a Car-Wars fan mag with rules for Monster Trucks and I have game-mastered at Gen-Con as well as several local cons.I currently run a role-writing/gaming group called Late Night Games online. I was a contributer to http://Gamegrene.com for a while, but dropped it when I was changing jobs and never got back to it.
Personal: I am 43 (just had ANOTHER birthday) and have been married to an Australian woman named Heather for 31/2 years and counting. We have no children, but I am active in children's groups like Boy Scouts of America and Church school. I am employed as lead applications developer (in PHP and PERL) for a middle-sized mortgage banking/investment company. I listen to a few podcasts, but have never done one myself (although I am considering it). My personal blog (for what it is worth) is http://wildandbad.com
Here's my questions:
- What is involved in doing a segment on "The Signal"?
- Do you just need somone to write the segments and then you will produce them?
- Are you looking for someone to produce the segment and then you edit it into the show?
- How long is the average segment and how much time would you recommend be spent producing it?
- My wife is a gamer and an interesting person and we are a lot more entertaining together ( The Dave and Heather Show we call it) so is having us together a possibility (as oposed to just me)?
I'd like to talk to you perhaps about this sort of thing...maybe write a segment or two and see how it looks. Give me an assignment and I'll try to fulfill it.
If I can keep up this sort of thing, then Heather and I might consider doing some Episode commentaries of our own. But baby steps first.
Someone from the show please PM/email me. _________________ If you didn't want to know, why did you ask?

I thought episode 4 was fabulous - thank you so much for interviewing me about Big Damn Chefs!
Keep up the great work!!
I have some news about another (non-food, non-BDC) charity that you might want to mention on your next episode:
--------------------
Carolyn and other Signal folks: I thought you might like to know about this. It's an auction that ends in 10 days...

From DRAyKE:
----------------
Hi!
At the Con, "Farpoint" , Ron Glass signed a Baltimore Browncoat tee in Support of the Ryan C. Major Charity Foundation.
Ryan is a solder who was in Iraq who was exposed to a point blank blast of a road side bomb. This happened last Nov., Ryan is still in the hospital. He has lost both legs, has severely damaged arms and a number of missing fingers. Ryan is 22. This Charity Foundation is to help set up his mother's house so that it is handicap accessible to him.
Here is a opportunity to buy a Serenity Collectible and help a good cause as well. Below is a Message to me by Ryan's Uncle and my friend Chris. It shows the e-bay site where the item is up for bids. The pic of Ron holding up the tee is priceless.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
Many thanks to you (and your celebrity friends) for getting this information to me and looking out for continuing to support Ryan.
Good luck to all of your club members.
I have published this listing on EBay. You can search "Serenity's Ron Glass Autograph Baltimore BrownCoats TEE" and provide an email to all of your mailing group. Category>Autographs>Sci-fi>Other Sci-fi

And then I commented in the forum:
The link for this item is:

(use right click "copy link location")
or a TinyURL of:

Tim and Chris - this is a GREAT idea!! icon_smile.gif

Yes, Les said there were no aliens in Red Dwarf, and he was right. I wasn't sure, since there are certainly some very weird creatures. It turns out that all of those very weird creatures are supposed to have evolved from Earth life. So Les was right, and so are you - but even though they might be descended from Earth, they are still weird enough to be "alien enough" for me - I mean that green blob creature in Camille... What I'm getting at is that they were able to tell the same sort of "alien" stories that Star Trek told, without actually committing to live evolving elsewhere. They can get away with this because Red Dwarf is set millions (billions?) of years into the future.
But I must disagree with you about Blake's 7. Star One was built to defend the galaxy from aliens from other galaxies. In Sarcophogus we meet a being of an unspecified alien race, who claimed to come from "a world it would take more than your lifetime to reach". There was also a spider creature in Harvest of Kairos, Saymon in The Web, Moloch, and so on. And the decimas. And let's not forget Host, which was actually a living planet. _________________

GELFs - Genetically Engineered Life Form. Yeah, everything was the fault of man. (The 'no alien life' bit is explicitly stated the book.)
Although they do refer to a strange creature from a hyper-dimension (in Emohawk from memory).

Not to mention that Cally was an alien! Yes, quite right.
I'm sure there has been another one, but might be mistaken. _________________ Cheers,
