Hi guys. I have a small problem: I don't speak Chinese. And while, "learn Chinese" would be the obvious solution to this problem, it's highly impractical, and I'd have to give up making the Signal in order to do it.

See, the thing is, every time Tales from the 'Verse gets a story with Chinese in it, we have to get those Chinese phrases translated (from English to Chinese). The guy that used to do all the translating for us has left the internet or something, and now we're stuck.

The problem also extends to Dark Places. There are about a dozen phrases in need of translation there too. Laoshi did a pretty good job doing text translations, but these are podcasts we're talking about - they're audio - we need to hear the Chinese, pronounced correctly, so that our readers and actors can try to copy it. A text translation is, alas, just not enough.

Are there any Chinese-speaking Browncoats on this forum who might be able to help us out? Tales from the 'Verse will need about half a dozen translations every story. (We do one story a month in theory, maybe slightly fewer in practice). Would anyone like to volunteer to help out? Or maybe point us in the direction of someone who might?

Terribly sorry, ma'am. I would really like to help you. Alas, I know not a word of Chinese. I missed the class this summer. I wish the best to you. Good luck.

I actually registered to ask about this, but is pronunciation still an issue?

If it is I'd be happy to coach you. Mandarin is my second language but I've been speaking it since I was about, well longer than I can remember. A year or two old maybe? I'm an American born Chinese and I've been told I have a perfect Beijing accent.

Let me know if you still need the help.

Yes, over in the Signal forum, "My Own Kind of Freedom" is being turned into an audio book to be podcast by the Signal crew. I've copied all of the Pinyin chinese out into a text document, and have tried my very best to make phonetic translations of the romanized language. The rules that I was given weren't too clear, but I've picked up enough in travels to the Far East to make a stab at it.

If you need a phonetic translation, I'm willing to try it. I've not gotten around to listening to this podcast, "Tales From the 'Verse" yet, but it is waiting in the wings for when "Failed Cities" is finished.
