Copy that, crew. I especially found The Tale of the Verse fascinating, and Fighting in Firefly will bring a new perspective to my viewing. _________________ Hell, I've been to the edge. |

On the DVD region thing: basically it was set up as an economic move (*cough* by the USA *cough*) so that people/companies couldn't go out, buy up cheap from some foreigners, then come back and make a profit domestically...
And as far as I am aware, only really the USA doesn't have multi-region DVD players as the basic cheap player option...
(At least, that was the situation for a very long time, might not be currently true.) _________________ Cheers,

I might split this off into another thread if this line of conversation goes anywhere, but ... what's the region situation with Blue Ray? Does anyone know? Are Blue Ray discs region encoded? Can you get multi-region Blue Ray players? With DVDs, I don't mind if shows come out only in the US, coz I can buy them and watch them anyway. (It's the same number of clicks to order from Amazon.com as from Amazon.co.uk). But if Firefly comes out on Blue Ray only in the US, I will be really pissed off if a technological hard wall prevents me from seeing it. _________________

I can answer some of that. Blue-Ray does support region coding, but the regions are different than DVD. More than half of currently produced Blue-ray discs are not region coded. I don't think anybody sells an out-of-the-box Blue-Ray player that is multi region, but some people have modded them to enable such functionality.
