The Speculation segment was particularly interesting to me as I have just started a new campaign in our Serenity RPG that sort of touches on this idea. This is how my campaign outline began:
| Quote: | This campaign takes place two years after the events of Serenity. Most of the hooplah about the “reavers” and “Miranda” and the cortex feed have blown over, but it is still there in the back of people’s minds. People really just want to forget that the Alliance is out there and that there are troubles.
Consequently entertainment waves on the cortex are at an all-time high. Theaters and concert-houses are becoming more and more common and are replacing saloons in many cities as the place to find entertainment. Civic governments have found that the Alliance is more than willing to subsidize construction of these sorts of places as it gives them a channel to reach the populace and change public opinion.
However, there are a lot of places on the Rim that aren’t organized or established enough to afford to build a theatre or to have an orchestra. Heck, they can’t even afford to build a city hall in a lot of cases. A lot of them are lucky to even have four walls on their church. Enter the traveling show. |
What follows after that are details of a traveling show that tours the worlds of the rim. The show features a circus-like show, a burlesque, and a sideshow. They are also capable of putting on a vaudeville, a concert, and in a pinch a tent revival.
It resonated well with the specualtion segment so I thought I'd share it. _________________ If you didn't want to know, why did you ask?

Thats a pretty interesting and believable perspective as to where society would progress after those events. Many think it to be utopian for a society that has grown weary of war and totalitarian control to gravitate towards arts and sciences as the social medium of choice but honestly I feel that its not that far of a stretch.
I'm not into the Serenity RPG but this post interested me as it shows there is a lot of forethought and ideology that goes into the game.
Hopefully our Bold Moves host David will see this post. _________________ Wayne Hutchinson

greenboots! heck, that made me laugh. Fans of the future!
and I liked the Volvo song (not least bacause I like volvos) which made me think. Could it be said that Volvos are the Firefly of the car world? im not talking about the newer volvos like the C30 etc, but the older ones that never seem to die. Like this one
I mean volvos generally are old battered peices of reliable machinery that are more often than not used on farms and in rural settings for transporting stuff. Some incarnations of the volvo have had an illigal side, in being a favourite car of Drifters, and there are plenty of hidy holes in them.
They are big, bulky, not pretty to look at, they drive like a tank, and are generally sneered upon.
dunno what ppl think. It came to me late last night, while driving home in my Dad's volvo |
