Stan Winston, the renowned makeup, creature- and visual-effects wizard whose memorable work on "Aliens," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and "Jurassic Park" earned him four Academy Awards, has died. He was 62.

Winston died of complications from multiple myeloma Sunday at his home in Malibu, said his son, actor Matt Winston.

At one point or another all of us have been treated to his work. This man really set the bar high for the special effects industry. He was much too young to leave us.

That's a real shame. I heard this elsewhere (Uni HD and BBtL boards I think) That was a name I actually knew. Such a talent. MM is a sod. He did some truly iconic work. Terminator is probably where I first heard his name. And did this make the mainstream news? Did it f*ck. As awesome a talent in his field as Cyd Charisse in hers, but you know whose name gets all the coverage (not that I begrudge that, but yeah, Stan was too young).
Tanj.

They gave him a prominent obituary on today's Last Word:
