First off I'd like to thank Jeremy for helping me register. I had some problems, and he was kind enough to register me from his side of the curtain...so "Thanks Jeremy!" - I'm very grateful.
Second - can anyone tell me where I can get Andy Evans' "Severance". I tried from i-Tunes, but it seems to be "broken". I Googled, but I couldn't find it anywhere. All the links seem to be dead.
Lastly, I love the Signal - and since I listen to it at work I tend to multi-task. I especially love the essays - but while listening I don't always get every word. As a "book" person, I would love it if the essays were linked somewhere on the site so that I can read them. Maybe they're out there, and I just haven't found them yet. So if they are posted, can someone point me in the direction - and if they aren't posted, is it possible that they become available.
The 2 from this episode so far are my favorites - and I would love to read them on the site - they are "Don't Let Their Perfection Fool You: Firefly's Women and Feminism" and "Here be Dragons".
Thanks!

We don't publish any of our articles/content as scripts or printed articles.
We create them with the intention of being presented on the podcast in audio form so that's the only way to enjoy them.
Take care,

And of course, I have to point out you can also find Severance at the Signal's own repository (of other people's work ): Badger Books.
http://badger.serenityfirefly.com
(where, incidentally, you can have the episodes delivered in order, starting from episode one, just like Podiobooks)

They will become available. They're not available yet, but it's planned and in the works. At the start of 2009, we got ourselves a new website, and one of the reasons for that was to make it possible for us to release this kind of content.
The website makeover is so huge that we haven't actually finished it yet, so we're keeping our old and new sites running in parallel, until the new one is ready to stand on its own, and do everything we want. But ... one day ... _________________

Thanks for the info Kevin & Kate. I just downloaded Severance, so I look forward to listening to that. As for the essays - well I guess I'll just have to stop working when they come on! LOL!
Actually, I re-played them while in traffic earlier -and I enjoyed them even more!
Everyone at the Siganl does a wonderful job - and I love the new web site.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yes. Bear in mind that there is over 4 full seasons of material to put into place on the new site. It's going to be a long ongoing process. Some of the older stuff may never get on as the authors have long since departed The Signal, but everyone who writes for the show currently is likely to be fine with making the articles available. (The Complete Scripts for Badger's World should be available reasonably soon for example)
Glad you enjoy the show

I'd like to add thanks to Heather Eaton for The Search for Serenity, which made me see things I hadn't before.
I was glad too when Jill suggested (in Here be Dragons) someone should make a computer model of the verse. I've been wondering about whether the verse could possibly be stable -- is this the elephant in the room?

No, you're right. It can't possibly be stable in real cosmological terms.
It's a fictional star system, you just have to accept that and while QMX and J. Chris Bourdier have done wonders making it work on paper and applying as much real world physics as possible....there is only so much you can do with something that's impossible to begin with.
Had this conversation over at Fireflyfans.net. If you apply real physics, it just don't work. Blue Suns for example are short lived monsters which no way could support earthlike or even terraformable planets. But we go with what we have and it's possible to fanwank in a plausible explanation for what we demonstrably see in the Verse on screen and on The Map (see The Verse In Numbers)
I have no problem with this as while Firefly has a hard SF vibe, it was never genuine hard science fiction, except in small details like space being silent. Joss wisely never went into the science part too deeply
But that does mean that making a computer model would have to be based on non real physics too An adaptation of any existing programme would not be able to recreate the 5 star system we see and make it work, let alone all the planets.

Thanks for the thanks! (It's Helen, by the way! )
I'm now feeling rather shamefaced that this is my first ever post and it's in reply to a compliment! (I'm an infrequent visitor to the forum as I have a poor internet connection and limited time online, but I do pop by when I can to enjoy other people's contributions.)
