I believe the Harry Potter group is actually called the Harry Potter Alliance or HP Alliance...they have a podcast hosted by Mugglecast and the Leaky Cauldron. But anywho...

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. Especially the analysis of Better Days. I had just re-read it on the weekend and so I was able to follow along quite nicely.

The Serenity model looks absolutely breath-taking and I can hardly believe my eyes when I look at the pictures. I wish there was a clearer shot of who is standding on the bridge though.

Wicked show everyone!

Thank. I had a blast re-reading it for the article, and I really, really like River's psychedelic fantasy.

I'm curious about how/whether Better Days changes anyone's opinions about Zoe. I mean - now we know she went around killing ex-soldiers during peacetime. I think it makes her a bit more scary, at the very least.

Oh definately!!! I was shocked! And I was little afraid that it wasn't too suprising after I thought about it for a bit. I think I know appreciate how much Wash softened her up...but I'm also wondering how this revelation would have affected their relationship if the series had gone on.

Well, it puts the Bad in the Bad guys. And they told us that they were, so it dosnt change to much for me. But Wash'es "She can kill me with her pinkie" certainly has a more sinister tone to it after that.

Mal bought Serenity three years after the end of the war, which is three years before the pilot episode (according to Mal's Alliance record, a prop from the movie), so I guess Zoe had to be doing something for those three years.

Joss said about Firefly, "everyone has their reason for being there". Maybe after three additional years of fighting a losing battle, Zoe decided she just wanted to get away?

I don't think this reflects on any of the rest of the crew though. I mean, we knew all along that Jayne had been a mercenary, killing people for far more selfish reasons, but we would never tar Kaylee (for instance) with the same brush. The real miracle is that all these widely differing people can find a way to live together.

Does anyone know how the lighting on the SFX version is powered? There was some discussion about this a while ago, as to whether to go for batteries or mains (house current). If the latter, international differences in the voltage supply might be a factor.

I don't see why. There is no way QMx would put a transformer inside the model, so even if it's mains powered, all you'll see is a tiny hole to plug a DC adaptor into, with specified voltage and polarity (e.g. 5V center-positivie). DC adaptors can be bought locally, so mains voltage would never be an issue.

I seem to recall that the power supply will be in the base? Could be wrong, but yes, the lighting itself will almost certainly be DC run. Plus, I can't see that Andy and QMX would overlook a detail like not having a 110/220-240V switch if it needs it. They know damn well folk outside the US will be buying this (we've bought all the other stuff!)

The power option may even be one you can specify to an extent (you can certainly order a non powered version for less cashy money). Remember, these things are almost a custom build and each one will be different (poses, power, the fact that a lot is hand painted etc)

Nick

Hi all - sorry for the tardy reply, but Nick is absolutely correct: The transformer is external for precisely that reason. Here's the specs:

12Vdc, 1A table top transformer. 6' lead with 2.1mm coax plug, center positive.

For what it's worth, we've shipped plenty of replicas using this transformer to the EU and it's worked without a hitch. Just need one of those handy little plug converters.
