...you hear rumors of a possible movie and you create a fan site dedicated to the show and you use the site to encourage people to not lose faith, and you include all sorts of guerilla marketing strategies. (Dec 2003)

...you buy 24 DVD boxsets of the show the day it comes out and you give them all away to friends family and even the occasional complete stranger. (Dec 2003) (Now up to over 40 sets purchased)

...you attend your very first scifi con ever, LA Con, because nearly the entire cast and crew are showing up (Dec 2003)

...you weep again when new found friend and Firefly superfan LuxLucre dies unexpectedly. (Jan 2004)

...you fly to L.A. to attend Wolfram & Hart annual review, because Ron Glass is going to be there. (Feb 2004)

...you create and print 1500 full size Firefly Movie posters, and just about cry again when you discover the movie is going to be called Serenity, the very day your Firefly movie posters arrive from the printer - you sell nearly all 1500 copies anyway, and you donate a percentage proceeds from the posters to Ron Glass's charity. (March 2004)

...you add a message board to your site, to help facilitate fan communication. (April 2004)

...you beg your way onto the set of the movie as an extra, and you consider your greatest moment of your life the 5 minutes Joss directs you. (July 2004)

...you help out with the world's first Firefly / Serenity podcast "The Signal". (July 2005)

...you spend 2 weeks editing videos of all the panels of all the cons you've attended and put them on DVD, to help the fan table at Comic Con. (July 2005)

...you decide to make a documentary about your experience as a fan of Firefly / Serenity and you put over $6,000 on your American Express for equipment to film said documentary. (July 2005)

...you attend Comic Con where you help out at the table and you film various fans, crew and a 20+ minute exclusive interview with Joss. (July 2005)

...you watch the final cut of the movie at Comic Con with Joss and all of the great friends (nay family) that you've met over the last 3 years. You realize it's all worth it when you see Joss stand up at the end of the movie with tears in his eyes. (July 2005)

...you spend an hour typing this list and realize you are either a super fan or completely insane (or probably both).

Beat that!

Jeremy

When you actually own the exact plastic dinosaurs from that scene.

My husband was at a science professional development class thingy (he's a teacher) and they told him exactly where to find them. Apparently they're quite common at the local dollar store.

- on the day the international trailer is released, all you can think about at work is getting home and downloading it. It is spankingly good!

- you drive home listening to U2's City of Blinding Lights, and when Bono sings the line 'A city lit by fireflies' you get an image of spaceships with butts all lit up hovering over the skyscrapers.

- you are still trying to find a way to get off work and go to the premiere, even though the tickets are long gone, and you have to work the next day, so you know it is impossible.

- you order comics online for the first time ever in your life.

- you get excited when you turn off your Firefly DVD and there on the TV is Carlos who played the fed in Serenity in some obscure film!

And these have all happened this week - scary!

When you tape the pilot episode from the sci-fi channel and keep it in your schoolbag in the hopes that you'll get the chance to lend it to someone - anyone! Wink

When you adorn your school stationary with 'Firefly' and 'Serenity' labels.

When you spend an entire plane flight trying to convince the sci-fi fan next to you to watch 'Firefly'.

Very Happy

When you spend 15 minutes successfully talking a salesperson at Hot Topic to just watch one show on SciFi.
And when you walk away you smile, knowing he will atleast go look it up on all the websites you gave him.

hey, second time posting here. (mostly post on the serenity official board)
I have to say after seeing jeremy's comment, that comment indicates great dedication, and because of superflans like him this movie would not have possible. I got late in the game, so i have to thank you.

Now nothing I say can compare to it, but here is my attempt:

~using one of the 11th hour posters(the mercenary one) as the msn picture

~everytime a new trailer comes out, putting the link to it in my msn name.

~spending almost half the day on msg boards, (i am wayyy to addicted, must get work done)
related question:
I just have to ask Jeremy, do you have a job or a business besides firefly? because it seems that all your time is taken up by firefly/serenity!

~buying for the first time in my life an item which I already own, the firefly box set.

~Getting pissed off in stores when I do not see firefly box set on the shelf(well its a mixed blessing, that its sold out, but that means that people might not see the shiney firefly box!)

~Buying for the first time in my life a comic, ie the serenity comic.

~proselytizing the awesomeness of firefly. ( I am hindu, and we do not proselytize)

~having that awesome image of the ship serenity above a planet as my wall paper

~first time actually belonging to a fandom (I like star trek, star wars etc... but I am not a hardcore fan)

~(related to point above) actually considering to dress up like a firefly character

~trying to organize a shindig of people I have never met in real life concerning a tv show!

~asking chinese friends what are the translations of various phrases on firefly (when i asked one about what ta me dah means, at first she didnt understand what I was saying, I was probably pronouncing it wrong, but after she realized what I was saying, she made a face)

Thats about it.

Thank you for the compliment, I'd like to think people like myself made a difference.

To answer your question, yes I do have a non-firefly related business. I'm a partner in a DVD Authoring/Multimedia company. We create DVDs/CDs and a few websites. The company is Rivetal, Inc. We tried really hard to win the contract to create the Firefly (and more recently Serenity) DVDs, but were unsuccessful. We have however created DVD features for several Hollywood DVDs including Blade Trinity, Dumb & Dumber (2005 re-release), Freddy vs. Jason, The Mask (2005 re-release), X-Men, Barbershop, Die Another Day, etc.

Believe it or not, I work an average of 60-70 hour weeks, and I do all this Firefly stuff on the side (and people wonder why I'm single - who has time to date??).

Oh, duh... Yes, I will indeed see you on Saturday. Looking forward to it actually.

So who's ideas was it for everybody on the internet to have aliases anyway? I'm bad enough remembering one name.

The aliases goes back to the early BBS days. I remember when I got my first PC, a Radio Shack 286 (let's not mention my VIC-20), and my 1200 baud modem, and logged onto my first BBS, it required you to create an account and asked for a "handle." The login also recommended you NOT use your real name to protect your privacy.

I think it may have been an early version of WWIV. Many of you were probably still playing Pong on your Ataris.
