|
|
Hi guys.
Forgive me if you already know all this and if this is posted in the wrong place, but thought you'd like to know.
Joss, Morena, Nathan and Summer did a web chat at empireonline.com.
Apparently so many browncoats logged in that Joss himself couldn't get into the chat room!
Anyway, Empire are going to do a full transcript in a week or two and there's going to be a special feature in the magazine. They won't say if Serenity will feature on the front cover. The Empire Mediator, Chris rates the film as a four star and thinks it stands up really well to other Sci-fi films. All this is great news and publicity for Serenity.
A really partial transcript is available at www.serenitymovie.com.au posted in the forums. Here:
http://www.serenitymovie.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=338
click on page 9 and scroll down.
Speaking of publicity, there's the weird "R.Tam Sessions" video clips posted at:
www.session416.com
It is speculated that this is part of Universal's viral marketing strategy and Joss is rumoured to have made cameo's in one of them.
Apologies again if you know all this, as you probably do.
Keep up the gorram great 'cast. It has started to become a highlight of my week and can't wait for the next episode.
Keep flying! |

Hey, thanks to Shelly H. for the kind words about my article "Firefly glows in the deep, deep black." I'm glad it's interesting newcomers into watching the show. I know that after writing a weekly pop culture column for two and a half years, that single column has gotten more response than all the others combined. And all of it from some damn nice people.
(The 2nd most popular was one predicting the cancellation of "The Inside" -- made two months before the show ever premiered -- and tearing FOX a new one for doing so. Gosh, that was fun. Remember, "Coming soon, on FOX! Coming next month, at Best Buy!") |

Les, you shouldn't feel too bad... My boss's husband goes by Mac, but his legal name is Marion. Guess how many boys he had to beat up in junior high? (In high school, it wasn't a problem, since he hit six-four at 15.) |

I seem to recall another Marion, Marion Morrison, who did all right in the macho department. Course, most folks know him as John Wayne. |

Names do tend to jump gender over the course of time. It's not entirely unreasonable that, five hundred years from now, Jayne could be quite a common boy's name (or at least, not too uncommon). _________________

Oh, and Jayne is not alone. There's another male character with what would be considered a female name in the present day, too. There's also Tracey from "The Message". _________________

| If I remember the past episodes of The Signal right, Book's first name is also more commonly a female name. Will have to go back and listen to get it, but I remember having the "that's Book's name?!" response to it. |

True enough. It's Meria, which in the present day would be an African girl's name. Well spotted. I hadn't noticed that. I'm sure Rich (who's writing the article) will figure it out though. _________________

I noticed it. I also ignored it. Simply put, "Meria" is not used on the show, and in my opinion, little impact on the character. Just as "Hoban" and "Warren" are not used. "Jayne," on the other hand, is used in every episode, therefore it was worth considering.
"Book" and "Jayne" are covered in Part II. _________________ --------------------------------

Can you please stop having those comic reviews from Bubba Fett? As I end up laughing and grinning like and idiot on public transit. Sure, it gets me a good seat, but I'm making all Browncoats look bad! _________________ Wash: I've been in a firefight. Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity.
Mal: You know, they say mercy is the mark of a great man.

Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.

Mal: Well, I'm all right. |
